Privacy Policy

What information we collect, why we collect it, and the control you have over it.

Who we are

Visionary Dreams Youth Initiative (“VisDream”, “we”, “us”) is a youth-focused organisation registered in Tanzania and based in Dar es Salaam. We run this platform to connect young people with leadership, entrepreneurship, financial accessibility, and partnership opportunities.

This policy explains what we do with your personal information when you visit this website, create an account, apply for an opportunity, register for an event, or contact us. We are the data controller for that information.

Information you give us

When you create an account, we ask for:

  • Your name — so we know who we are speaking to and can address you properly.
  • Your email address — used to confirm your account, sign you in, and contact you about applications you have made.
  • Your phone number — so we, or an organisation running an opportunity, can reach you about your application.
  • Your studies — the university you attend, your course or field of study, the region your university is in, your year of study, and the year you graduated or expect to.
  • Your sex and age range — an age band rather than your date of birth, because a band is all our reporting needs.
  • Your areas of interest — so we can tell you about the opportunities that fit you rather than all of them.

These details are required to register for an event or an opportunity: we cannot place someone on an attendance list, or put their name forward, without knowing who they are. You can still create an account and browse the site without them. You may add your education level as well, which is optional.

VisDream is for people aged 18 and over, so we do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger.

When you apply for an opportunity you may upload a supporting document, such as a CV or certificate. When you contact us through the contact form, we receive the name, email address, phone number, and message you submit.

Information we collect automatically

We keep a record of the opportunities you apply to, the events you register for, and when you did so, because that is what the application and registration features are for.

We use cookies only to keep you signed in. These are essential — the site cannot log you in without them. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not track you across other websites. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which may include your IP address, for security and reliability.

How we use your information

  • To create and run your account, and to sign you in securely.
  • To process applications you submit and to let you track their status.
  • To register you for events and know who is attending.
  • To reply when you contact us.
  • To share your application with the organisation running an opportunity, where that is necessary for it to be considered.
  • To understand, in aggregate, who our programmes are reaching so we can improve them.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We will not send you marketing messages that have nothing to do with the opportunities and programmes you signed up for.

Who can see your information

Your profile is visible to you and to VisDream administrators. When you apply for an opportunity or register for an event, administrators can see your name, contact details, and the information relevant to that application or registration, so they can review it and get in touch.

Other members cannot see your profile, your applications, or your registrations. Where an opportunity is offered by a partner organisation, we share only what that organisation needs in order to consider your application.

Where your information is stored

The platform runs on Supabase (database and file storage) and Vercel (website hosting). These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and data protection commitments, and their servers may be located outside Tanzania. We chose providers that apply recognised international security standards.

Access to the database is restricted by row-level security rules, so the system itself enforces who can read what, rather than relying on the website alone. Documents you upload are stored privately and are not publicly accessible.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your profile, applications, event registrations, and uploaded documents.

We may keep contact form messages and basic records of programmes delivered for up to three years, for reporting to partners and funders. Where we can, those records are kept without information that identifies you individually.

Your rights

Under Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, 2022, and as a matter of our own practice, you can:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct anything that is wrong — you can edit most of it yourself in your profile.
  • Ask us to delete your account and the information attached to it.
  • Object to a particular use of your information, or ask us to restrict it.
  • Withdraw your consent for optional information at any time, by removing it from your profile.

Email info@visdreams.org to make any of these requests. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission of Tanzania.

Keeping your information safe

Connections to this site are encrypted. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider, which means we never see or store your actual password — not even administrators. Access to member information is limited to the administrators who need it.

No system is completely secure. If a breach occurs that puts your information at risk, we will tell you and the relevant authority without undue delay.

Age

Accounts on this platform are for people aged 18 and over. If you are under 18 and want to take part in a VisDream programme, a parent or guardian can contact us at info@visdreams.org so we can arrange it with their consent.

If we learn that we have collected information from someone under 18 without that consent, we will delete it.

Other websites

Our pages sometimes link to other organisations, such as the provider of an opportunity or our Instagram page. We are not responsible for how those sites handle your information, so it is worth reading their own privacy notices.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will let account holders know by email.
